Last Week

Rotary Minute

Lee Hansen spoke of an interesting feature on the Rotary International web site.  This month’s subject was “Why are you a Rotarian, and what does Rotary mean to you?” Different Rotarians respond each month, and their responses are also available.

50/50

After the 50/50 drawing which Brad Paige won and donated to the Food Pantry, Cathy Chase called for everyone to stand who had been in Rotary for 20+ years, 15+, 10+ and 5+ respectively, with almost everyone in the room on their feet for a round of applause.

Announcements

  • Terry Hodskins is home and doing fine, but needs some support from her Rotary family during the weekdays – prepared meals appreciated.
  • Kathy Thornton and Isabelle Julian will do the Thanksgiving baskets this year – Cathy Chase will provide them with the recipients’ addresses.
  • Christmas Party – Sunday, December 13 at 4 p.m. – East Restaurant. Spouses invited. Please respond to Dennis Hardy at dlhardy@maine.rr.com.
  • Cathy Chase thanked Jim Kanak for taking meeting notes, but asked for someone else to take over the job.

Last week's Speaker

Chuck Morgan, Economic Development Director from the Maine Regional Planning Commission, spoke about its role in York County. Having been in existence for 41 years, the commission consists of three divisions that issue mostly federally funded monies:

  • Land use (aids with growth planning, subdivisions, mapping (GIS system), emergency management, etc)
  • Transportation (aids with comprehensive transportation plans)
  • Economic & Community Development (helps municipalities with applications for public grants for public building projects and aids in the overall strategy of the plans. A good example is the mill building in North Berwick that was refurbished and now houses 45 senior housing units.)

Thought for the Week

The end result of kindness is that it draws people to you.

Anita Roddick, A Revolution in Kindness, 2003
