Last Week
A Christmas stocking hat was passed to collect funds for this year’s family Christmas basket/gift, and it was later announced we had raised $205.00.
Rotary Minute
Rick Goodrich spoke of Rotary’s founder, Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer, who came up with the idea of regularly meeting with friends and colleagues in order to network with one another. And today on the Rotary web site there is what is called the Global Networking Group, which consists of two groups: Rotary Fellowship Group, and Rotary Action Group. Rick explained that the Fellowship Group listed many, many interest groups: i.e., yachting, scuba diving, wine, canoeing, etc. So you can network, literally, with Rotarians who have similar interests, around the world.

Special Presentation
A $1,000.00 check was presented to Diana Young and Wayne and Tracy Elkins for the D.O.V.E Fund, an organization that carries out charitable work in Vietnam. A representative from D.O.V.E. made a presentation to our club last October explaining that they were building a school to recognize three soldiers who died in the war, one of whom was Diana’s brother, and Wayne’s father. Tracy Elkins graciously thanked our club for the support.
The staff of the Coastal House thanked us for our patronage and wished us Happy Holidays.
Last week's Speaker
Assembly:
It was voted unanimously that the $1,000.00 donation to Wells Boy Scout Troop 356 would instead go to the Pine Tree Council, as Troop 356 had requested.
Luke Guerrette explained that in future bills it would be easier to differentiate between the Rotary Foundation and the Wells Rotary Charitable Foundation, our own fund. Also, contributions to our own fund do not count toward a Paul Harris award, just the Rotary Foundation. Cathy Chase welcomed our newly proposed members. Rick Goodrich, chair of the membership committee, will be going forward with the fireside chats and finalizing the process. And there was a reminder for those who did not attend last week’s meeting that if the Wells schools are closed or the schools openings are delayed, there will not be Rotary meeting. You can check for school closings at Monday morning Rotary meeting www.wcsh6.com. And if the schools are closed for vacation and we get a storm, they will advise us by e-mail, or you can call Vince!
And to a resounding rendition of “Jingle Bells,” the staff at the Coastal House was presented with an extra token of our appreciation for the great work they do for the club.
Thought for the Week
The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but to reveal to him his own.
- Benjamin Disraeli
British politician (1804 - 1881)
Wells Rotary Closing Notification Policy:
If Wells schools are closed there will be no meeting. Information can be found by checking channel 6 or going to www.WCSH6.com. Click on "closings & delays." The listing will be shown as "Wells-Ogunquit CSD 18."
