Last Week
New Members
 |
| |
|
Mark Jago, Peter Leon and Eleanor Vadenais, were pinned and given new member packets.
|
|
|
Member Spotlight
Kathy Chase spotlighted two new members. Peter Leon, pastor of the Wells Baptist Church, who likes sailing and tennis, and coached high school varsity tennis for 12 years. His favorite color is navy blue and his pet peeve is criticizing others. Mark Jago directs the recreation center at the Messiah Christian Church. His favorite “sport” is spending time with his wife. Favorite color is blue, favorite sport is basketball, and his favorite book is the Bible. He’s looking forward to knowing all the club's members.
Rotary Minute
Bob Foley spoke of the earthquake disaster in Haiti and that Rotary was always there in an emergency. He told the club about the “Shelter Boxes” that Rotary ships to disaster areas. They weigh 470 lbs. And contain a 10-person tent with survival equipment, tools, stove, water, etc. His suggestion was that our club donates 1 or 2 boxes.
50 / 50
Luke Guerrette donated his winnings to the food pantry.
Special Presentation
 |
|
There was a special presentation to David Sinclair of the Pine Tree Council for the Boy Scouts of Maine of $1,000.
|
| |
| |
 |
|
There was also a $250 donation to the York Hospital Breast Cancer research center fundraiser put on by the members of the Wells’ Women’s Varsity Basketball Team. Don Abbott, their coach, told the club about the “Shoot for a Cure” free throw competition. Each of the 78 girls was challenged to raise $100. They far surpassed that goal in donating $12,561 to the York Hospital. John Kreie was thanked for his contribution of the new pink uniforms the girls wore.

Dates to Remember
- May 13 – Auction
- July 31 – Chicken Barbeque
- September 13 – Golf Tournament
Last week's Speaker
Assembly
Dennis Hardy will represent the Rt./Rt109 beautification committee, which will start in March, stop from June 25 to Sept 3, and then restart. The state, town, and Rotary will meet when the project is 75% complete.
Rick Goodrich passed out a step-by-step acceptance procedure for new Rotary members.
New Ideas
- Enjoy a Portland Pop’s Sunday afternoon concert
- Field trips – Dennis Thayer’s tour of the sewer district
- Mr. Li honored as honorary member at Charter Night in May. Discussion followed and Joe Sheehan’s letter of proposal will be sent out to the members so that the new members know the Li history
A vote was called for sending 1 shelter box from the club and an additional one from club members’ contributions. It carried unanimously.
Lee Hansen will chair the auction but needs help soliciting and collecting items and getting them to him.
Thought for the Week
I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters and that it is my duty...This is my highest and best use as a human.
