Member Spotlight

Rocky Furman, a new member of Wells Rotary, lives in Wells. He is retired. Rocky has five children, ages 28 to 46, and 6 grandchildren, ages 3 to 12. Rocky serves as the treasurer of his church. He enjoys kayaking and puttering. His favorite color is brown, and his favorite book is Dale Carnegie’s “Winning Friends and Influencing People.” Rocky belongs to the Lumbermen’s and Women’s fraternity. His pet peeve is not getting the job done correctly, and he joined Rotary to do “service above self.”

Rotary Minute

Our guest from Wisconsin, Bruce Goode, filled in for Jon Sevigney. While riding in an elevator his friend had just two floors to explain what Rotary did to a fellow elevator passenger – “We do good things so people don’t die.”

50/50

Our guest, Bruce Goode, won and donated the money to the shelter box project for Haiti.

Announcements

$70 was collected for the Shelter Box for Haiti

Last week's Speaker

Patrolman Joshua Stuart & Lt. Ruth Farnsworth
Kathy Chase, Patrolman Joshua Stuart &  Lt. Ruth Farnsworth

Lt. Ruth Farnsworth of the Wells Police Department explained the new “Good Morning” program, which is designed to assist senior citizens or adults with disabilities living alone. The program covers senior citizens 60 years of age or older or adults with disabilities living alone. After a brief application is completed and a waiver signed, the participant will call the Wells Police Department daily between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. to say, “Good Morning.”

If a program representative does not receive a call from the participant, a police officer will be dispatched to the residence to check on the person. Having been proven successful in other Maine communities, the Wells Police Department is trying to get the word out in Wells. Contacts are Officer Eric Roubo or Officer Joshua Stewart at (207) 646-9354.

Officer Joshua Stewart announced the “At Risk” program, which is designed to help residents during an emergency. Eligibility requirements:

  • Dependent upon others for routine care
  • Child under 18 without adult supervision
  • Blind – visually impaired
  • Deaf – hearing impaired
  • Amputee
  • Require assistance with medical care and medications
  • Dependent upon medical equipment and special devices
  • Receiving chemotherapy, dialysis, hospital bed care
  • Mental health diagnosis
  • Elderly and/or housebound
  • Concerned about your well being during an emergency

In the event of an emergency, police officers would be dispatched to the enrollee’s homes to make sure they are okay.

Thought for the Week

Ancient Rome declined because it had a Senate; now what's going to happen to us with both a Senate and a House?
