ELLEN FARBER-LIBOWITZ

MEMBER SINCE: February 2007

WHAT MADE YOU JOIN ROTARY?: I joined to continue the work of my late husband Jack Farber who was a member for 43 years in Malden and Melrose, Massachusetts and then joined Ogunquit Rotary when we moved here full time in June of 2005.  I was just a Rotarian, but felt at this point I should step up to the ranks.

SINCE BEING IN ROTARY ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC PROJECTS THAT YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF?  WHY?:  Yes, one was the Dominican Republic Water Bay installation project from Ogunquit Rotary.  I did not participate and go there, but hosted 8 Rotarians from the Dominican Republic Rotary, for 2 nights at my home in Ogunquit.  They stayed overnight and we had a cook - out, Lobster bake party with music and speeches. Another is the music and Literacy projects for the Wells Rotary.  The Golf Tournaments have been wonderful to participate in, as well as sponsor.

TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF: WHAT IS YOUR LINE OF WORK? WHAT GOT YOU IN THE FIELD? WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE HOBBIES? WHAT DO YOU WANT OTHER ROTARIANS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN OUT OF THIS ROTARY CLUB?: I have been a Music Educator for many years having taught in the public schools of New York and Massachusetts and presently in my 10th year at Berwick Academy.  I also am a Rabbi/ Cantor and am employed for 19 years at a Temple in Massachusetts as well as in Ogunquit. I also own 8 Photo and Video stores in 4 states - Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine called Hunt Photo. I was born and educated in New York City.  I moved to Massachusetts when I married my late husband Jack Farber.  I live between Ogunquit and Massachusetts once again now that I'm married again to Howard Libowitz.  I also own a home in Del Ray Beach, Florida. Between us we have 6 children (myself 4) and 11 grandchildren (myself 7).  I am vice president (formerly president) of the International Women's Club of New England, a member of the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce and the York Clergy Association. I also volunteer and do clergy visits at the York Hospital.   My hobbies are biking, walking, working out in the gym, singing in the Seacoast Community chorus, directing, playing the piano and singing with my group Les Chanteuses which sings for Nursing Homes in the area. I wish to support  worthy charitable endeavors with Wells Rotary.  I like the comradery of being with selfless individuals who believe life is most fulfilling when helping others less fortunate.  I have always been involved in charitable causes and welcome the opportunity to continue to do so.
